8th Grade English![]() In 8th grade English Language Arts (ELA), we strive to create a classroom that is creative, explorative, and collaborative.' This summer, we will be traveling around the world using the power of literature. This will incorporate actively listening, discussion-oriented lessons that engage the reader, inspire achievement, and promote higher-order thinking. By creating high expectations for the learner, our students will be equipped to take on challenging situations, motivate themselves and their classmates, and master complex skills and concepts. In our classroom, students and teachers respect one another. All directions are followed the first time they're asked, and we refrain from cell-phone use in order to maximize learning and community-building. When students meet these expectations, they are recognized and celebrated by their classmates and teachers, which includes positive calls home, school shout-outs, and the opportunity to earn the Student of the Week award.

Join us as we follow the course of American History. Starting as early as the writing of the Declaration of Independence to the America we live in today, America has been made up of a diverse collection of people. This summer, we are attempting to answer the question: “What's the recipe?”. We will explore the histories of these different groups, how they have been treated, and how they have contributed to the country that they belong to. With a specific focus on how the American people have shaped our government, changed our culture, and led our nation through crises, we will use historically important sources and literature so that our students can develop both English/reading and social studies skills. Our hope is that the students this summer will learn to celebrate both the similarities and the differences that exist within the United States, and they understand how they fit in the culture of America.
